The Koons Family Institute on International Law and Policy will be a permanent tribute to world-renowned artist Jeff Koons—a man who has lived the pain and anguish of international child abduction firsthand as a victim parent—and his family.
The Koons Family Institute will combat child exploitation in all its forms, including child trafficking, child pornography, and child abduction. The Koons Family Institute will champion efforts to improve identification of and assistance provided to child victims of abduction and sexual exploitation and to bring perpetrators to justice, regardless of where they live.
The Koons Family Institute will be a leader in advocating for strong and consistent laws to combat crimes against children. Staff at the Institute will work tirelessly to assess existing laws, provide blueprints for critically needed reform, develop and implement model legislation, and promulgate best practices.
The Koons Family Institute will strive to improve the recovery rate of missing children around the world and to reunite abducted children with their left-behind parents. Where cultural traditions and beliefs restrict a child’s access to both parents, the Institute will work to forge innovative solutions, including bilateral agreements between countries and mediation between parents.
The Koons Family Institute will drive a global movement to build awareness, encourage and increase cooperation and collaboration between and among countries, and intensify efforts to protect children from abduction and sexual exploitation.
The Koons Family Institute will provide the focus, expertise, and resources needed to reverse disturbing trends in child abduction and child sexual exploitation, with the ultimate goal of making the world safer for all children.
However, we cannot do this alone. We need your help.
